St Stephen’s CEVA Primary School Governors have suggested changes to the admissions policy - consultation period now open

Admissions policy for St Stephen’s CEVA Primary School

Who does this apply to?

Parents and those with parental responsibility who intend making an application for their child to St Stephen’s CEVA Primary School for:

Entry to Reception from 1 September 2011 or

Entry “in year” from 1 August 2010.

How will it impact on you?

Following a meeting of full Governors, a change is to be made to the admissions policy that may have a direct impact on church families.

Revised admissions criteria

It is St Stephen’s policy to admit no more than 60 children into the reception year as part of the normal admission round and to hold to a maximum of 60 in each year group, irrespective of the number of children in the school overall. In the event of over subscription the following criteria will be applied:

Criterion 1 - Children in care (children in the care of a Local Authority).

Criterion 2 - Children who will have a sibling at the school at the time of their admission to the school.

Criterion 3 - Children who have been baptised, or have received a service of thanksgiving, who themselves or a parent, are practising members of St Stephens Church, Lansdown or St Mary's Church, Charlcombe and who live within a radius of 0.6500 miles of St Stephen’s School. These distances will be determined using the LA’s GIS computerised mapping system.
In accordance with the revised policy, a practising member of the church is one who has been baptised or has received a service of thanksgiving and has attended worship at the church at least twice per month during the twelve months immediately prior to the application. The application must be supported by a letter from the Priest in Charge (or a person authorised by the PCC) of either St. Stephen’s Lansdown or St Mary’s Charlcombe verifying these facts. The date of the letter must be no more than 90 days prior to the date of the Governors’ meeting at which the child’s application is considered.

Criterion 4 - Children living nearest the school as measured in a straight line from the front door of the child’s home address (including flats) to the main entrance of the school.

“In Year” Admissions

These must be made directly to the Local Authority. If the child or a parent is a practising member of St Stephens Church, Lansdown or St Mary's Church, Charlcombe, as defined above and lives within a radius of 0.6500 miles of St Stephen’s School, these distances being determined using the LA’s GIS computerised mapping system, a supporting letter must be provided from the Priest in Charge (or a person authorised by the PCC) of St. Stephen’s Lansdown or St Mary’s Charlcombe respectively verifying that fact. The date of the letter must be no more than 90 days prior to the date of the Governors’ meeting at which the child’s application is considered.
